Dr Ullas Rao

As an academic in Finance, I strongly believe in the “democratisation of finance” to benefit the larger population. Finance can no longer be the preserve of the few. Empowerment of people begins with financial education as a first step. In my current role at Heriot-Watt University Dubai, I am playing my part in disseminating financial education to the larger student community representing an eclectic mix of regions and cultures making teaching and learning a fascinating experience. With a focus of research-informed teaching, my endeavor hinges on disseminating the best of research and industry practices to ensure learning is both intellectually stimulating as well as elevating. My research is primarily focused on the following areas: M&A, Corporate Valuation, Islamic Banking & Finance, Market Efficiency, and Cryptocurrencies & Fintech. I’ve published in refereed journals of international repute and presented papers in discerning academic conferences. I’ve also been actively engaged in working with the industry over the years through MDPs, consulting and other executive assignments. I’ve completed my doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Dr. M. R. Suryanarayana Murthy (Ph.D., Birmingham, UK) and have earned professional certifications from the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment (CISI, UK) on Islamic Finance and Wealth & Investment Management.
